It’s been a tough year for the rowers, and certainly not the fastest.  In the beginning there were a series of low pressures causing the majority of teams to row hundreds of miles south before heading west towards Antigua.  Although some boats decided on a more northerly route the southern route paid off with Swiss Raw taking the overall win and the fastest 4 and race class winners in 34 days 23hrs 50m 31s.

Second in were Atlantic flyers, a very strong team from the RAF who’d had very little time together rowing before the race, so have surprised many.

Then the boats came in thick and fast with the East Rows west being the fastest trio this year.  Between the 21st and 22nd January 9 boats arrived in Anigua, starting with Atlantic Nomads the fastest mixed trio, then One Ocean Crew being the fastest female 4 who were in a close battle in the female class with Mothership for that title.

Helvatic waves were the fastest open class boat and were in a tight battle with the SeaSports sponsored boat Wrekin rowers.  After nearly 3000 miles of rowing they arrived within just one  minute of each other!

Wrekin rowers certainly had their problems, firstly taking the wrong gas for their cooker which meant they were on cold rations after the first 5 days at sea.  Then a Marlin strike holed their boat, which resulted in them rowing with about 100kg of extra weight.  Then, about 7 days before the end, they had to fix their water maker holding them back further.

We then saw Force Atlantic fastest mixed 4’s arrive, followed by Elijah’s Star raising £300k for their charity.

The 22nd ended with the Two Rowing Fins taking the pairs title.

23rd brought in Foar Tomorrow, In Deep Ship and ExtraOARdinary who set a new female trio world record.

latest in yesterday was  Row for Impact female 3’s to be followed by Wild Waves female pair very soon.

The closest solo Lasse from Ocean Warrior is around 600 miles from Antigua and Sandro from A lung Journey has over 1450 miles to go.

We are cheering on the remaining teams and solo rowers still to arrive in Antigua, including our local SeaSports Sponsored team Emergensea Duo .  The Husband and Wife, A&E Doctors pair are due in on the 1st Feb.

Check out the progress and teams on the yellow brick tracker https://yb.tl/skajdi2120 . There is still time to sponsor the teams and the fantastic charities that they are raising funds for.
