It Can Sometimes Be Difficult to Talk About Yourself! - So we asked a local windsurfer made good to give us some thoughts:

John Hibbard, UK National Champion,

Britain’s Most Extreme Champion and World Tour Competitor comments on the arrival of SeaSports Southwest:

windsurfing champion 007 "It’s great to finally have watersports tutition and hire available in Teignmouth. It will make getting in to watersports that much easier. I wish it had been around when I was learning. I learnt to windsurf on the river Teign when I was 14 years old. At that time there were no coaching facitlites availble locally so I learnt most of my skills from magazines and from watching others as well as a lot of trial and error.

I attended Teignmouth Community College and always dreamt of setting up a watersports facility in the town. In the end though my attentions turned to competitions and I set off in search of a life as a professional windsurfer. 10 years since learning in Teignmouth I have achieved my goal and become the National Champion as well as winning the covetted title of Britain’s Most Extreme sportsmen!

I compete all over the world on the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) World Tour, with my best result so far being 5th at the Samsung Mobile Championships in Belgium. I always look forward to coming back to my roots and windsurfing in Teignmouth. It’s a great place to try windsurfing and having SeaSports SW in the town can only be a good thing, and maybe in a few years time another Teignmouth windsurfer will be joining me on the PWA world tour."
Cheers
John
